Robotics Club - Our Lady of Victory Catholic School

The Our Lady of Victory Robotics Club offers students the opportunity for hands-on experience with robotic design and programming and encourages the development of creative problem solving skills. Students entering grades 5 through 8 at OLV can participate in our summer camp to build foundational skills and then transition to our FIRST Lego League Challenge team from September-January and our regular after school club sessions throughout the rest of the year.

Summer Camp (2026)

When: August 10-14, 2026 from 9:00AM to 1:00PM
Where: OLVCS (room TBA)
Dropoff/Pickup: Campers can arrive by 8:50AM daily. Park in front of the school and enter through the main doors with your student for dropoff. Come inside to sign them out at pickup.
Registration Fee: $175 (includes camp t-shirt and daily snacks)
Lunch: Campers should pack a lunch. The last hour of each day will be less structured, allowing students to eat at their leisure and continue to tinker with the various projects.

Description:

The OLVRC Summer Camp will introduce students to the basics of coding in a fun and hands-on environment. Students will learn basic coding skills using the Scratch drag-and-drop coding platform developed by MIT, with opportunities to expand into Python coding for those who are already proficient with Scratch.

Each student will work with a CyberPi microprocessor and a Chromebook to complete various programming tasks and challenges, many of which will involve working with an mBot2 Coding Robot. The camp will also feature a LEGO Spike Prime kit and the competition game (Unearthed) from the 2025-26 FIRST LEGO League Challenge Season.

Goals:

By the end of the camp, every student should understand and be able to implement the basics of coding on the Scratch platform and be able to complete basic programming tasks using a CyberPi and an mBot2. Students should also have experience using the LEGO Spike Prime kit and understand how the more complex kit allows us to solve more difficult problems. Students will be encouraged to solve problems both independently and as part of a team.

Robotics Summer Camp FAQ

Who can attend?

Do campers need prior experience with coding or robotics?

Beginners are welcome! All that is required to attend our camp is an interest in and enthusiasm for robotics, programming, and STEM in general. Before the camp begins, we will send you a survey to tell us a bit about your student's past experience with programming and robotics (if any). This will help ensure that we have plenty of materials available to match everyone's ability level.

The camp will be fairly intensive, however. So while no prior experience is necessary, we will be asking students to focus and be prepared to challenge themselves and learn new ideas and skills throughout the week.

How much is registration, and when and where do I register my camper?

Registration for the OLV Robotics Summer Camp is $175, which includes snacks and a camp t-shirt.

Register by clicking on the "Click Here to Register" button at the top of this page and completing the form. The form will activate when registration opens at 9:00PM on May 8, 2026. After successfully registering, you will receive an email with a link to pay the registration fee.

Please complete the payment process as soon as possible. Unpaid registrations will be removed and the slots reopened or offered to those on the wait list. We will make every effort to contact you before removing a registration.
