Jared Boxes

Every year, students at OLVCS join students and organizations across the country in creating Jared Boxes, care packages with small toys and activities that are distributed to children in medical facilities.

The Jared Box Project is a 501c(3) charity that was built and is sustained entirely by volunteers. You can visit the home page of the charity at thejaredbox.org.

Origin of the Jared Box

In 2001, the children at Our Lady of Victory Vacation Bible School created the first assortment of Jared Boxes. These boxes contained toys, art supplies and other items to be given to children receiving treatment at a local medical facility.

The inspiration for the boxes came from Jared Mullen, an Our Lady of Victory Catholic School classmate and friend.  For nearly 2 years, Jared battled an incurable brain tumor with courage and faith. While receiving treatment, Jared always carried a backpack full of games, toys, and other items for play and fun. He invited other children waiting for appointments to join in games with him.

Each Lenten season, OLVCS students experience the rewards of giving and helping others by making Jared Boxes. Our students' efforts have inspired many boys and girls with other area organizations to also create Jared Boxes in order to give the gift of play to chronically ill children.

To date, more than 1,000,000 Jared Boxes have been created and delivered to children receiving medical treatment in all 50 states.
