Overall Curriculum Goals

Christian formation in the gospel values, community service, and self-discipline prepares Catholic school students for the challenges they will face today and in the future. A firm understanding of the Catholic faith is vital to the spiritual well-being of Catholics. For over 50 years, Our Lady of Victory Catholic School has been effectively educating young people in the Catholic faith. The OLVCS Religion curriculum is guided by the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown and meets the standards of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USSB).

Religion class is taught 4 days a week to all students in grades K-8. Overall, OLVCS uses the Bible and the Catechism of the Catholic Church to inform and direct teaching.  Further, Grades K - 8 use the Word of Life series. This comprehensive textbook series is aligned with the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Lessons are supplemented with online and hard copy resources.

Continuing to Learn at Home

OLVCS partners with parents in the faith formation of their students. Parents and guardians are encouraged to help their students learn formal prayers that are known to enrich spiritual development. A list of valuable prayers can be found on the Prayers to Know page.

Mass Attendance

OLVCS students attend Mass once a week at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, usually on Fridays at 9AM. At this Mass, OLVCS students serve as readers, altar servers, and greeters, as well as fulfill other duties for the Mass. Parents and family members are welcome to attend school Masses. Throughout the school year students, also go to church on Holy Days of Obligation, receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and participate in the Stations of the Cross, Rosary, and May Crowning, as well as other devotions and prayer services.
