    Music

All of our students enjoy Music and the benefits of Music Education. At Our Lady of Victory Catholic School students in Kindergarten to 5th grade have one music class per week. Middle school students have two classes per week.  The OLVCS Music curriculum is guided by the standards of the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

In Music class, OLVCS students actively participate in a variety of rhythmic activities, including reading and playing rhythm with percussion instruments and boomwhackers. They are also challenged to develop and compose their own rhythms.  Students study certain aspects of the elements of music each year. They will also learn about families of instruments, musical theatre, and different genres of music. The history and lives of artists, composers, and innovators of the music industry are also discussed.

Interested OLVCS students in grades 3 - 5 may join and sing in the OLVCS Elementary School Choir. Older students in grades  6 - 8 may join the Middle School ChoirThe choirs perform at the Christmas concert and at the Spring Fine Arts Night. They also perform at other community events throughout the school year.

Beginning in Kindergarten, students may take string instrument lessons and gain experience playing with others in the school band and/or smaller ensemble. When students are in third grade, they are eligible to learn to play a band instrument.  More information about Band and Strings can be found on the Instrumental Music webpage.

All middle school students are encouraged to try out for roles in the School Musical. This annual production is an excellent opportunity for middle school students to gain instruction and experience in acting and singing. Not only will students develop on stage, but they will also increase their confidence and expand their communication as well as their listening skills. Our OLVCS students always have FUN while learning!
