Elementary School Technology

  • Daily classroom learning is enhanced with interactive lessons on SmartBoards. Each elementary classroom has iPads or Chromebooks to match students, one-to-one. Students in grades K - 2 benefit from iPads, while students in grades 3 – 5 transition to Chromebooks for personal technology utilization.  Students may not take home these devices.

Students reinforce learned academic skills through fun, interactive activities on online learning sites such as IXL and Spelling City. Older elementary students use Google Doc features to create text documents, slide presentations, spreadsheets, drawings, and surveys.

During Technology class, elementary students work on keyboarding skills and explore computer programming through interactive Code.org and Scratch activities. Importantly, the responsibilities and challenges of digital citizenship including online safety, privacy, and data sharing are also discussed.

Additional technology resources are available to students as needed.

Middle School Technology

  • The OLVCS middle school has a one-to-one device program. Students may take home their assigned Chromebook with their parent's permission.

All students have an OLVCS Google account, and iXL Math and Language Arts account, access to online textbooks, and access to online grades in PowerSchool.  Both in-person and remote learning students use Schoology to manage school assignments.

Peer editing in Google Drive creates a collaborative learning environment for group work for all subjects. Students use TI-89 Graphing Calculators and the Desmos graphing app and website to explore properties of linear, exponential, and quadratic functions.

Additional technology resources are made available to students as needed.
