Two students and a staff member recently tested positive for Covid. Both will be out of the building until the five day isolation period ends.

As a reminder, with Pennsylvania being fully open for the last several months with no restrictions placed on schools and all other areas of daily life (with few exceptions), contact tracing is next to impossible. We advise families that if they are in public or private places with others, including school, assume that you most likely have been exposed to Covid at some point. Because of this continue to monitor for covid symtoms and if you develop symptoms stay home until you feel better.

    Dear Families,

We learned today that a student who attends OLVCS has tested positive for Covid-19. Any necessary contact tracing was completed.

Due to privacy requirements, we cannot release the name of the individual or details that may identify the student.

We would like to thank our families and staff for being so diligent again this year, following our safety plan and allowing us to provide a safe and secure learning environment. Due to delayed test results recently, up to 7 days in some cases, the contact tracing period has often expired before we are aware of a positive case and it makes determining close contacts very difficult if not impossible. For this reason, please keep your child at home if they are experiencing cold or flu-like symptoms until they feel better.

  • OLVCS COVID UPDATES

Posted by Terry Stec on 1/10/2022
    Good evening,

As most of you have probably heard by now, the CDC recently updated their recommended Isolation and Quarantine guidelines for K-12 schools. The Pennsylvania Department of Education, The Pennsylvania Department of Health, and the Diocese of Altoona/Johnstown have all updated their recommended guidelines to fall in line with the CDC recommendations. Below are some quick references for the new guidelines. Isolation and quarantine periods have been shortened considerably. As always, if your child is not feeling well,  please keep them home until they feel better.

    • If exposed to COVID  and UNvaccinated:
    1. Quarantine for 5 days and monitor for symptoms. If symptoms develop, restart 5 day isolation from onset of symptoms.
    2. Return on Day 6 with no fever and with recommended consistent mask wearing days 6-10. Continue to monitor for symptoms

    • If exposed and Vaccinated:
    1. No quarantine is required.
    2. For those 18 years of age and older, vaccinations need to be up to date to avoid quarantine. This includes a booster shot if needed.
    3. Children ages 5-17 only need the primary doses of a COVID vaccine to be considered up to date. Boosters are not required.
    4. Anyone who has had a confirmed COVID positive test in the last 90 days does not need to quarantine

    • If COVID positive regardless of vaccination status:
    1. Symptomatic- 5 days isolation with a return on day 6 if symptoms are improving and the person has no fever. Recommended consistent mask wearing for days 6-10
    2. Asymptomatic- 5 days isolation, monitor for symptoms and return on day 6 as long as the person is fever free.  Recommended consistent mask wearing for days 6-10

A negative test result is not required for a student's return for any of the above scenarios.

Also, starting tomorrow, we will no longer notify by e-announcement of COVID positive cases in the school. A link will be set up on the school's web page where communications about COVID positives will be posted. Below is the final communication regarding recent COVID positives in the school that will be sent via direct email. Please let me know if you have any questions.
