Audition Requirements and Process
All OLVCS students in grades 3-8 are welcome to audition for a part in this year's musical, Frozen Jr. The musical includes 10 non-speaking parts for students in grades 3-5, and approximately 20 speaking or non-speaking parts for students in grades 6-8.
New policy: Due to the limited number of available roles, not all students who try out are guarenteed to be given a part in the musical.
Audition and Casting Process
To audition for a part in this musical, students (and parents) must complete the following steps:
Step 1: Attend Drama Club Workshop
Thursday, November 14, 2010, 2:45-4:00PM
OLVCS Music Room
At this workshop, students will learn the audition dance and discuss the required song choice.
Note to Parents: Be sure to send in a note with your child to the school office, indicating that he/she will be staying afterschool for this workshop. Students who are not picked up by 4:15PM will be signed into ASAP and parents are responsible for any costs incurred.
Step 2: Download and read through the Musical Info Handout
This handout describes the audition process, available rolls, and other important information. The last 2 pages of the handout are the "Actor Contract" and "Parent Contract". Both parents and students should read this handout.
Step 3: Print out and fill out contracts
No student may audition without the submission of both contracts.
Step 4: Sign-up for Audition
Go to the online audition sign-up form and sign up for one date/time. Students should be waiting outside the music room at least 5 min BEFORE for the audition time.
Step 5: Practice, practice, practice
Students should refer to the workshop materials and discussion, as well as the posted dance demonstration videos, when practicing.
Step 6: Bring the completed contracts to audition and do your best
The casting committee will use a ruberic to rate the students' performances during the auditions. Generally, the casting committee will be grading the applicants on vocal and dance ability, enthusiasm, projection, and prepareness.
Students should arrive at least 5 min early for their audition time. Students will audition in groups of 4. Only students who have submitted their contracts will be allowed to audition. Friends and parents are NOT allowed to attend the auditions.
Step 7: Call Backs (Possible)
In some cases, a few students may be asked to come for a second audition. A casting committee member will contact these students directly.
Step 8: Publication of Cast List
The casting committee will post the final cast list over Christmas Break.
Step 9: Payment of Activity Fee
Students who make the final cast list must submit the $50 activity fee to the school office in order to confirm acceptance of their role. Checks should be made payable to "OLVCS." This fee may be waived if it poses a financial hardship. In this case, parents should contact Mrs. Weakland directly.
Step 10: Watch for information rehearsals
Rehersals will begin shortly after the new year. Mrs. Capozzi will post rehearsal times on the Musical website.
