  • Weekly Wrap Up! First Week of Advent

Posted by Dawn Lorenz on 12/4/2020

    Dear OLV Preschool Family,

This week we celebrate the hope that Advent brings into our lives. I am grateful for each day we get to be in person at our preschool. Thank you for practicing diligence and following our health and safety guidelines to help us to do that as long as possible.

We are also celebrating today because after an extensive Internal Assessment Process with the Keystone STARS program during the last several months, we have received a STAR 4 designation. This rating is the highest that can be received within the Keystone STARS program. It is an indicator that our school is committed to continuous quality improvement through ongoing professional development in assessment, curriculum, diversity, and language development. The review process also ensures that our school provides a safe, positive, and enriching academic environment for children to grow and learn.

Thank you for being a part of the OLV Preschool Family. Without you none of this would be possible.

    Blessings,
    Dawn

    #RaisingKindness2020
8 days to go! Thank you so much to all who have already registered for Raise Craze. To date we have raised $3,065 toward classroom and security updates for our school by doing acts of kindness in our homes, school, and community! We have 57% of our students registered for Raise Craze. There is still time for #RaisingKindness2020. Attached is the flyer that explains how to get started and help us on our kindness challenge.

    Adopted Families
Interested in supporting our adopted families for Christmas? Be on the lookout for a Sign Up Genius to come early next week. We will be signing up to bring in wrapped gifts for our families with Saint Vincent DePaul. Gifts will be picked up on December 18th.

    Brrrr. . . .
It's certainly getting chilly! We will continue to go outside as long as the weather permits and it is a real feel of 25 or above. Please label any jackets or other items coming into the school so they are not lost or sent home with the wrong child.

    Tuition
Thank you to all who have dropped off tuition payments for December. If you have not already done so, please remember to drop off a check on Monday morning.

  • Weekly Wrap Up! Happy Thanksgiving

Posted by Dawn Lorenz on 11/24/2020

    Dear OLV Preschool Family,

My heart is so full. Thank you for making these last 12 1/2 weeks of in person preschool possible. It has been a joy to have our building full of light, and love, and laughter.

As you know, last Friday we kicked off our Raise Craze #RaisingKindness2020. While we are working to raise money for our school by Acts of Kindness (AOK), please know that you and your children are helping to share much happiness during some dark times in our world. Thank you to those who have shared your talents, your gifts, and your donuts with our community. Because of your generosity we were able to help another family with Saint Vincent DePaul in addition to our 2 adopted families. A special thank you to Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy who raised $230 for gift cards that were also donated to our adopted families. I am so proud of you all. I am so grateful for you.

This Thanksgiving may be different. I continue to urge you to keep up the good health practices so we can keep going. Most of all, I want to wish you a happy Thanksgiving full of new memories and new traditions.

    Blessings,

    Dr. Lorenz

    3. Enter 5-10 email addresses of potential supporters. Raise Craze will send all emails, reminders and thank you notes. Emails will never be shared with third parties or used for marketing.

We are currently at $540 raised for our school through your Acts of Kindness! Thank you! Our goal is to raise $7,500 to meet all of our teacher's classroom wishes!

    Jared Boxes Available

While there are many types of Acts of Kindness one way OLV Preschool is sharing kindness with our community is through the creation of special Jared Boxes for patients on the COVID unit at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Our Jared Boxes are sure to comfort the COVID patients in our local hospital and this is a perfect way for #RaisingKindness2020 in our community.

To get started, you can request an empty plastic box at OLV Preschool. We will provide a list of suggested items to include in your box.  The list is also attached below to view. To learn about the Jared Box Project, visit www.thejaredbox.com

    Temporary Afternoon Schedule Change

We continue to monitor information from the Department of Health and the CDC with respect to our community. Our goal is to continue to keep our preschool safe, healthy, and open. Given information available we will be temporarily suspending enrichment afternoons for the two weeks following Thanksgiving. This is the plan proposed in our initial Reopening Plan if substantial community spread had the potential to impact our school. Our temporary hours for November 30th-December 11th are as follows. Our normal schedule will resume December 14th.

    7:30AM-8:00AM Early Morning Drop Off

    8:10AM-9:00AM Preschool Drop Off

    9:00AM-11:45AM Morning Preschool

    11:45AM-12:00PM Preschool Pick Up

Pick up procedures mirror our parent drop off procedures. Please use the back lot and remain in your vehicle and we will bring your child/ren to you. Buckle your child up, and wait to be given the OK to move forward. We ask that all parents also wear masks and practice social distancing at drop off as well as pick up.

    Tuition

Don't forget us! Tuition is due no later than December 4th. We depend on tuition for our teacher payroll and appreciate your help. If you have your child enrolled in afternoon enrichment programming the fee for afternoon programming will be reduced by 50% to make up for the two weeks we are not holding the program. If you have questions regarding the amount due, please contact our front office.

    Gift Cards

Did you know buying gift cards can help support the preschool? You can still order gift cards from Giant, Weis, Sheets, Waffle Shop, Barnes and Noble, and Home D. available for purchase. Contact petersp@olvcs.org to place your order, and it will be available for you at parent drop off!

    Brrr...

When we return it is likely to be a little more chilly. We will continue to go outside until it is below a real feel of 25 degrees. When sending in coats, gloves, hats, etc with children please make sure to label all items.

    Important Dates

Wednesday, November 25th-Friday, November 27th: Thanksgiving Break

Monday, November 30th-Friday, December 11th: No Afternoon Enrichment

  • Afternoon Enrichment Schedule Changes November 30th-December 11th

Posted by Dawn Lorenz on 11/23/2020

    Dear OLV Preschool Family,

As we move into our Thanksgiving holiday break I want to thank all of you for continued diligence and prayers in helping to keep our preschool safe and healthy. I have always indicated to you that as long as we are able to operate safely we would continue to remain open. After much discussion with our partner schools, Parent Advisory Board, and other area preschools we have decided to modify our hours of operation for the two weeks following Thanksgiving break, November 30th-December 11th.

Given the 11% increase in statewide COVID-19 cases and the probability for travel and interaction with family and friends over the break we will use the modified schedule presented in our Reopening Plan to temporarily cancel afternoon enrichment programming. This plan minimizes the need to re-group students from different classes and decreases the possibility of transmission between classes in the event an illness is suspected in our school. The modified schedule is as follows:

    7:30AM-8:00AM Early Morning Drop Off
    8:10AM-9:00AM Preschool Drop Off
    9:00AM-11:45AM Morning Preschool
    11:45AM-12:00PM Preschool Pick Up

This reduced schedule will allow us to continue to offer early drop off and preschool in the mornings. We will plan to resume afternoon enrichment on December 14th. We remain mindful of our responsibility to keep our entire community safe - from students to teachers to staff and their respective families for this holiday break. Please know that we do not make this decision lightly.

In order to ensure the safeguarding of our health and that of all our OLV Preschool Family, it is up to each of us to engage in appropriate health and safety measures both in and out of school. If you are traveling or seeing family during this break please follow the guidelines presented on the Department of Health website https://www.health.pa.gov/topics/disease/coronavirus/Pages/Travelers.aspx. While a negative COVID test is permissible for school re-entry after travel, we strongly recommend families who have spent time out of the state or with people from out of state to self-qurantine for 14 days if possible.

Prayers for a happy and healthy Thanksgiving for all of you.

    Blessings,
    Dr. Lorenz

Our year might look a little different than previous years, but we have quite a bit going on in our Catholic School Community. Please make sure to review all of the wrap up this week so you know what to expect as we approach Thanksgiving and Advent together.

    Home for the Holidays

If you are traveling this holiday season please be sure to review Department of Health guidelines at https://www.health.pa.gov/topics/disease/coronavirus/Pages/Travelers.aspx. The official policy from the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown is below:

Persons associated with Our Lady of Victory Catholic School, such as employees, volunteers, students, or third-party agency employees who travel outside PA are required to quarantine for 14 days from the day they return to PA ,before they can return to OLVCS. Alternatively, the person may choose to be tested for COVID-19 within 72 hours of their return to PA and if a negative test result is documented, they may return to activities at OLVCS. In the case of a third-party agency employee, it is the responsibility of agency to inform OLVCS that their employee complied with this directive.

  • Weekly Wrap Up! Week 10

Posted by Dawn Lorenz on 11/6/2020

    Dear OLV Preschool Family,

This year has certainly brought with it a fair share of challenges and changes. As we end another week together our school is focusing on what we are grateful for during this very different time in our history. I am thankful for the dedicated educators I get to work with every day, and the smiles I get to see when children enter our school each morning. I am certain that the work we all had to put in this year to be face to face for a full two months makes me even more grateful for what we have.

It is often hard to look beyond what is happening in our world and find the bright spots. I certainly don't want to discount what we have been through this year, but my challenge for all of us throughout November is to survey the blessings around us. Specifically, have the challenges we have faced during 2020 brought us any special, hidden gifts we would not have otherwise received?

    Blessings,
    Dr. Lorenz

    Treat, no Trick
Thank you to everyone who came out to our first Drive Through Trick or Treat. It was such a TREAT to see all of the kids in costume. We do still have a few extra treat bags with OLV Preschool shirts available if you missed the event. Please let your child's teacher know if you would like one.

    Safe and Healthy
This is such a fun time of year with lots of family gatherings. Please remember that our school is only as safe as we all work to make it. We ask that you continue to wear masks at pick up and drop off, and request that you also practice social distancing and masking when out of school. When we all work together it will allow our school to remain open longer.

    Thanksgiving is for Giving
Each year OLV Preschool adopts families from the Saint Vincent DePaul Society. We are grateful that Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy will partner in this tradition with us this year. We will be adopting 2 families to support through Thanksgiving and Christmas. For Thanksgiving we ask that our students bring in nonperishable items or toiletries that can be gifted to our adopted families. These do not have to be Thanksgiving specific. After Thanksgiving we will send out information on special wishes our families have for Christmas.

    The Gift of Reading
Traditionally, next week we would host our Scholastic Book Fair. Although we are not able to hold our typical fair, we are excited to host a Virtual Scholastic Fair for our families!
