    Central Intermediate Unit #10 Services


    Eligible OLVCS students may receive learning and counseling services through the Central Intermediate Unit #10. The CIU is a Pennsylvania Department of Education supported education service agency, which seeks to "build the capacity of all learners by identifying needs, developing courses of action and supporting the implementation of strategies to allow for continuous advancement and achievement." 

    Below summarizes the CIU programs available to OLVCS students. In order for a student to be evaluated and receive services through the CIU, the student must be referred to the CIU by his or her OLVCS teacher. For more information about these services and your student's eligibility contact your student's teacher or the school office.

Remedial Reading Program

  • The remedial reading program is a supplementary program through the Central Intermediate Unit #10 (CIU) Act 89. It is a diagnostic, prescriptive program designed to assist students in developing their reading skills.

    Eligible OLVCS students who meet the grade-by-grade criteria, set by the CIU, are accepted into the program. As determined by the reading specialist, students work with the reading specialist in the CIU mobile classroom, across the parking lot, in the back of OLVCS.

Speech Program

  • The speech program is a supplementary program through the Central Intermediate Unit #10 (CIU) Act 89.  It is a diagnostic, prescriptive program designed to assist students in developing their speech skills.

    A speech pathologist will conduct a speech evaluation with the student. As determined by the speech pathologist, students work with the speech specialist in the CIU mobile classroom, across the parking lot, in the back of OLVCS.

Remedial Math Program

  • The remedial math program is a supplementary program through the Central Intermediate Unit #10 (CIU) Act 89.  It is a diagnostic, prescriptive program designed to assist students in developing their math skills.

    Eligible OLVCS students who meet the grade-by-grade criteria, set by the CIU, are accepted into the program.  As determined by the math teacher, students work with the teacher in the CIU mobile classroom, across the parking lot, in the back of OLVCS.

Academic Enrichment Program

  • The Enrichment Program is a supplementary service program through the Central Intermediate Unit #10 (CIU) Act 89 for eligible third through fifth graders. This is an interactive class that challenges students’ engineering abilities, imagination, problem solving skills, writing talents, all while being absorbed in a fun-filled learning environment. The class meets once a week in the CIU mobile classroom, across the parking lot, in the back of Our Lady of Victory Catholic School.

    To be eligible, OLVCS students must be recommended for the program by their teacher and meet program requirements on standardized testing. CIU personnel conduct additional testing to confirm eligibility. 

Guidance Counseling

  • The guidance counseling program is a supplementary program through the Central Intermediate Unit #10 (CIU) Act 89.  It is a program designed to assist students in making decisions about their educational and personal needs and other life choices. Eligible OLVCS students will meet with a CIU guidance counselor on a regular basis.
